About Yusuf

A Japanese revert Muslim.

Yusuf

Yusuf

I was born and raised in Tochigi, Japan. In 2024, I reverted to Islam and became Yusuf.

From a very young age, I was drawn to the world beyond Japan. At 6, my grandmother gave me a globe. I spent every day spinning it, memorizing countries, capitals, and the oceans between them. I promised myself I would visit those places one day.

I have now traveled to 56 countries. And every time I return home, I fall in love with Japan all over again. That is why I started Yusuf Japan Tours. I want to share this country from both sides: as someone who grew up here, and as a Muslim who understands what matters to you.

My Story

How Yusuf found Islam

1

A friend who changed everything

It began with my closest Japanese friend, who reverted to Islam. I did not understand it at first. But I followed him to mosques across Japan and what I found there surprised me. Not the religion I had seen in media. Instead, I found warmth, generosity, and a hospitality I had never experienced before.

2

56 countries. Countless Muslims.

As I continued traveling the world, I kept meeting Muslims in markets, on trains, in deserts and cities. Everywhere I went, I encountered the same values: honesty, respect, community, and care for others. And I began to notice something striking: these values were not foreign to me at all. They were deeply Japanese.

3

“Japanese people are sleeping Muslims.”

The more I learned, the more I found common ground between Japanese morality, culture, and the teachings of Islam. I came to believe that at a deep level, Japanese people and Muslims already share the same heart. I was not becoming someone different. I was becoming more myself.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. June 2024.

By the guidance of Allah, I took my shahada at the Central Mosque in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in June 2024. I became Yusuf. And for the first time, everything made sense.

Why I Guide

I love Japan deeply. And I want you to love it too.

Born into a traditional Japanese family with a proud history, I grew up learning to appreciate the depth of this country. After reverting to Islam, I began researching halal restaurants and prayer spaces so I could share Japan with Muslim travelers. That research became a mission. And the mission became Yusuf Japan Tours.
